Wood Islands Lighthouse

I refer to the Wood Island's Lighthouse frequently so decided to do a story on it and let everyone know what an interesting place it is!

To start off my Sister manages it. It is a real lighthouse that has been turned in to a museum and Interpretive center and gift shop. The light house has 11 rooms that are orginal and each represent a part of the lighthouse life. Years ago the lighthouse keeper lived there.

It is run by the Wood Islands Developement Corporation that is mostly made up of volunteer community members.

They run a gift shop to help off set costs...I have my crafts there and they do quite well...they like to have nautical items but do sell other things.

There are guided tours that take you right up to the light itself.

Here is their website: http://woodislandslighthouse.com/

Last week they had a moonlight tour...my grandson and I were there. It was fun and they had local entertainment along with fresh lemonade and cookies.

Earlier in the summer they hosted the Sea Glass Festival that was a huge success and will become an annual event!

If you ever get to Prince Edward Island it is a must see on your list!

Hi Mona! There is an award called the Premio Meme Award - just between us bloggers - and you are one of the 7 blogs I've chosen as my favorites. But there is a responsibility to this award. Please follow the instructions that you'll find in our blog at: www.Thunder-Moon.blogspot.com

You and Gail are the only blogs I have from the Grannies so I featured you on our blog. :)

Thanks! ~jane ~

What a wonderful post about your Wood Island Lighthouse. What a neat job your sister has - what fun to work at a lighthouse.

I lived on Tybee Island, GA for 13 years and was a frequent visitor to the Tybee Island Lighthouse and found many unique gifts at their gift shop over the years. Tybee Island Lighthouse also became a special memory for our family as my daugher and SIL were married there in 1994. I'd love to visit yours.

Wonderful Quotes to live by!
