F + A + S + C = BNR - Fun + Angels( Etsy) + Sales + Charity( Joey's Eagles) = BNR!! Join us January 17th from 5 pm til 11pm!

The Etsy Angels guarantee lots of fun, some sales and a percentage of all their sales going to their charity of the month - Joey's Angels.

The Angels are a fantastic team of women that use their crafts to help out different charities at least 4 times a year. Learn more about us from our blog!

They donate a percentage of their sales to these charities... since Etsy has changed the way we promote we needed to find a new avenue to get our shops out there in order to raise these funds so along came BNRs( Buy and Replace Treasuries)!!

We had wonderful success for our last charity with our BNRs - Breast Cancer Awareness - 75 sales in first one and 48 in second one.

You do not have to be an angel to participate in the BNR nor do you need to donate but if you purchase from our shops we will be donating.

2012 Here I Come....

2012 is going to be another busy year for me. Therefore I am going to make a few goals for myself as I know I will be busy with the family and my crafting will take second place which is ok but I do want to continue with all the hard work I have been doing with my shop on Etsy and my consignment shops.

As most of you know I am expecting another grandchild in May/June. It is due in June but daughter in law can not seem to carry her babies full term so they will be taking the baby in May. We already have a 14 month old grandson and a 10 year old one so I will be helping with them if Mom ends up in the hospital for a long period of time with new baby.

I took 2 months of work to spend time with hubby...lol.. not knowing about the new baby.

Now on to my Goals:

* Adding at least 3 items a week to my shop -

* Making at least 3 items a week for my shop and consignment shops -

* Keep at least 2 items in draft listings for those weeks that I can not get items photoed.

* Here is the hard one... not to buy no more fabric unless I use up as much of the fabric I have before making that purchase or to destash it!

* Blogging once a week

I hope to add to those goals through out the year.

*• ♫♫♫•*’ The Etsy Angels are hitting 2012 with a bang!! We are going to start right off with a very worthy charity event - Joey's Eagles! *• ♫♫♫•*’

We had a very successful 2011 and and want to get the new year started so we decided to begin with a charity event that would be close to everyone's heart - Children with Cancer and doing something for them.

From their blog:

Joey’s Eagles is a non-profit organization established in 1996, in memory of my son Joseph Grampp, to provide support for families with children and young adults facing cancer or other serious chronic illnesses.

Through donations made to us, we have been able to provide financial support for families in times of crisis and provide events throughout the year that have brought great joy to everyone.

Our goal is to provide a positive self-esteem for these children and also give ongoing support to their parents. We meet throughout the year, where we have shared parental support sessions and planned group activities.

It is just the start but we have a few Angels working on their shops already:

Special Fruitcake Recipe

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is fruitcakes... I love them! My grandmother always made ours until she was too ill to do so. I was always a baker so Dad said you do it this year you are always doing those things.

I tried Nanny's recipe and did not like the way it turned out but had waited to long to get some tips from her so I asked my sister's mother in law for hers as it was very good as well..

Here is what the dear lady gave me... this lady raised a large family, did lots of baking and cooking so things were easy for her...lol... imagine how you would feel if this was passed to you...

White Fruitcake

Chunk of butter
About 1 1/2 cups sugar
Scant cup of warm milk - I use can milk and warm it with water
3 cups of flour
eggs
baking powder
salt
1 1/2 pounds sultan raisins
mixed fruit and anything else you want to add
lemon, vanilla, almond extract

Mix fruit, raisins and nuts with 1 cup of flour let stand over night.

Mix up and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done!

lol... needless to say I was shocked and had no idea what to do so called sister and she said talk to Betty!

Here is what I finally got from her and God Rest her soul... she passed away 1 month ago after being diagnosed with cancer 4 weeks previously. Her fruitcake recipe will be passed down for many years.. I make at least 4 each year.

White Fruitcake
1 cup of butter
About 1 1/2 cups sugar
You may not need the cup if it mixes well. Scant cup of warm milk - I use can milk and warm it with water
3 cups of flour
3 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 package of raisins(1 1/2 pounds)sultan raisins
1 container of mixed fruit, (1/2 cup of cherries cut up and nuts if you like)
1 tsp of each - lemon, vanilla, almond extract

Mix fruit, raisins and nuts with 1 cup of flour let stand over night.

Cream butter, sugar, vanilla, almond and lemon extracts
Add baking powder and salt
Add fruit mixture
Add milk and other 2 cups of flour.. mix well and pour into a lined tube pan.
( line with wax paper)

Mix up and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done!

The Etsy Angels held their first BNR 2 weeks ago and it was a roaring success - We had 85 sales... 47 of those sales will see a percentage being donated to Breast Cancer Awareness.

We are having our second and final one for Breast Cancer Awareness on Thursday, October 20th at 5:00pm Etsy time.

We would love to see lots of support for the Cause there... we will be posting our link in our thread when it becomes live.

Loving the Fall...

I love the fall.. the weather is beautiful and the scenery is amazing! I live in a wooded area and there are so many different colors to see. I was out walking around my yard this morning looking at what needed to be done before Old Man Winter sets in and saw all these amazing leaves:

Then on the way to see my Mom as I was driving down the road I took this one.. the county living is so nice:

Halloween is only a few weeks away and we are all getting into the swing of it... these are popular sights around here these days:

This is a stunning example of the Waterman boys sculpting abilities... they won numerous awards in the last few years for ice and sand sculpting, so sad he is deteriorating - they lost their grandmother this week to cancer... she was so proud of them :

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month!! Are you thinking about it, are you thinking Pink? The Etsy Angels certainly are...each October we raise funds that go towards Breast Cancer Awareness and this October is no different.

We are working on our Think Pink sections like this one in my shop. We are planning a BNR! Each shop will donate a percentage of their sales or a percentage of certain items in their shops to the cause.

We would love to have other shops join us in our Fundraiser and our BNR!!

We will be starting a new thread with our intentions for donations and all the shops that are participating. We will post each day the number of sales going to help the cause.

Summer is Gone??? Where did it go?

Yes it is September and summer is gone again. It seems like only yesterday it was May!! The days are getting shorter, the nights cooler and the leaves are changing color.

My summer was busy for a number of reasons. One was that I spent a lot of it with my grandsons - son's MIL and I babysat the boys so they did not have to go to a sitter and I took a temporary position as a Supervisor.

I enjoyed both very much and hope to repeat it next year.

What did you do for the summer?

Well.... we helped the oldest grandson decorate and put his 4 wheeler in the local Fisheries Festival Parade. The theme was Support your Special Olympians... we have 2 in our community that took home medals. He even got to get in a bubble!

We took the boys camping in our new RV...we all had a blast. The baby was a darling - you would think he was home in his own bed.

We took the oldest grandson to the Stock car races and the Demolishion Derby at the Speedway. He got to go for a ride in a stock car and then his name was drawn to ride in the pace car for the Street Stocks.

These are just some shots of the Grandsons during the summer with us!

Oh and I bought my very first new car!! Still getting use to the size of it.. I went from a G6 sedan with a 6 cylinder motor to a very sporty looking Mazda 3 with a 4 cylinder motor.

Look out 2012 I have lots of plans for you... starting with taking May and June off from work... I am going to be a Lady of Leisure.

What are you the Most Proud of?

As I was sitting at my computer trying to decide what todays blog topic would be my mind kept wondering away. So I thought well that has got to be my topic for today!

What are you the most proud of in your life? What I am the most proud off is not something I created but rather what my son and his wife created - my two wonderful grandsons. They make my world go around, there is nothing I would not do for them and my days are not complete with out them.

I spent most of my vacation time this year babysitting as we did not want the youngest to go to a day care yet- he is only 9 months old. Next year I am taking 2 months off work to keep them full time.

We love to do things together - 2 weeks ago my hubby and I put the oldest grandson, 10 years old this month, in our local festival parade. He had a blast with his 4 wheeler( we gave this to him last year for his birthday and grading) passing out freezies to the little ones along the route.

Then it was off to the fairground where he went on a few rides and did what every mother and grandmother wants to do with their young children...lol...Put them in a bubble!

Sunday I had my youngest grandson boy while his mom spent some alone time with his oldest brother, is he a handful now but loved every minute of it...it is so rewarding to want him do new things and to explore....although some of the exploring was scary!

Children are what the makes the world go around - hope you enjoyed a peek at my world.

Here are 10 things you can do today to help you stay organized.

1. Utilize a list notebook.

Often chaos ensues because we are trying to juggle too many things in our brains. We can’t focus on any one thing because we are trying to remember everything. It’s exhausting to say the least.

Grab yourself a notebook and just start brain dumping all that needs to be done. Be very detailed with this list because the more steps you list out, the less you have to try and remember. It makes a huge difference to your mental clutter even if you aren’t able to get everything crossed off that list in one day.

2. Update your family calendar.

Now take your list to your calendar (and if you don’t have a central family calendar, get one quick!) Make sure your calendar is updated with appointments, school events, things to bring, etc.

For instance, if you need to bring cupcakes to school on Friday, add a note to Thursday’s square to pick them up or make them that day.

3. Menu plan for today.

You may not be menu planning for the whole week yet, but you can menu plan for TODAY. Instead of waiting until the witching hour (isn’t that the worst!), plan what you’ll eat that night in the morning.

Check your freezer, pull some meat out, look up a recipe and you’re all set. 10 minutes of pre-planning will again allow you to stop worrying about it for the rest of the day and free up all sorts of head space. See the pattern here?

4. Never leave a room empty-handed.

One of my best tips for staying on top of clutter is to make sure you take something with you every time you leave a room. Do it as you go…dirty dishes, laundry, toys, mail, you name it. If it belongs in a room you’ll be going to or passing, bring it with you!

5. Assign a task to your children.

Too many moms are trying to do it alone. Get your kids involved. Start today. Assign them each one task off your list to complete. I know it’s often faster for us just to do it ourselves but the training has to start somewhere.

6. Create a donation station.

Every home needs somewhere to collect the things we no longer need. Grab yourself a big box, mark it with the words donation station and let everyone know what it’s for.

7. Add 5 things to that donation station everyday.

Have every person in your household collect 5 things today to add to that donation station. Set a timer and make a game out of it. See who can be the first to collect their 5 things. Before you know it, that donation station will be full!

8. Create an “I’m Outta Here” shelf.

Similarly you need an errand bin by your front door. I call it my “I’m Outta Here” shelf and it’s somewhere I can collect things that need to be returned to a friend, mailed, returned, etc. That way when I’m heading out I can easily remember what needs to be done and tasks don’t get backlogged.

9. Do a 10-minute tidy before bed.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Do a 10 minute tidy each night before bed to set up your next day for success. Plug in cell phones, check and update your calendar, tidy surfaces, make lunches or whatever it is that needs to be done in order to start the following day on the right foot. It makes a world of difference!

10. Check your attitude.

You do not want to end up like this poor lady:

Finally, stop beating yourself up! Coming down hard on yourself does nothing except make you miserable. Tomorrow is another day. Celebrate every accomplishment no matter how small.

This month's charity is Loveformaliciababies ! This organization was formed to help support families who have children with forms of Laryngo, Tracheo, Broncho Malacia.

1. Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of a sugar cone to prevent ice cream drips.

2. Use a meat baster to "squeeze" your pancake batter onto the hot griddle - perfect shaped pancakes every time.

3. To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes.

4. To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.

5. To get the most juice out of fresh lemons, bring them to room temperature & roll them under your palm against the kitchen counter before squeezing.

6. To easily remove burnt-on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on stovetop-skillet will be much easier to clean.

7. When a cake recipe calls for flouring the baking pan, use a bit of the dry cake mix instead-no white mess on the outside of the cake.

8. If you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in a peeled potato-it absorbs the excess salt for an instant "fix me up."

9. Brush beaten egg white over pie crust before baking to yield a beautiful glossy finish.

10. Place a slice of apple in hardened brown sugar to soften it back up.

11. When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness. (ah, an old 1940’s Fannie Farmer trick!)

12. To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh-if it rises to the surface, throw it away.

13. Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.

14. Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces.

15. If you have a problem opening jars: Try using latex dishwashing gloves. They give a non-slip grip that makes opening jars easy.

16. Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice and rub raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.

17. To get rid of itch from mosquito bite: try applying soap on the area, instant relief.

18. Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march-see for yourself.

19. When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

20. NOW Look what you can do with Alka-Seltzer:

°º✿✿º° Clean a toilet-drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush, and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous china.

°º✿✿º°Clean a vase-to remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka-Seltzer tablets.

°º✿✿º°Polish jewelry-drop two Alka-Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

°º✿✿º° Clean a thermos bottle-fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka-Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).

°º✿✿º°Unclog a drain-clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka-Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, then run the hot water.

The Full Monty....

I really did something I never thought I would do last Wednesday night. My sister and 5 of her friends do this special girls night out event about every 6 months. Last time it was a show called Hairspray! I really wanted to see it too but no tickets left so when one of her friends got sick at the last minute I bought her ticket. As we were leaving the Confederation Center they were making plans for the next event and asked if I would like to join I said why not. At this point I did not know nor did they what was next.

A few months later my sister called we have tickets to the Full Monty.. Ok what is it about? You can imagine what I said when she told me the story line...
"Six unemployed steel workers form a male striptease act. The women cheer them on to go for "the full monty" - total nudity."

Well, Wednesday was the night of the show and The Full Monty was a roaring success....we had a blast, I do not remember laughing so much and yes, they were in full monty but we could not see as the lights were turned way down but the undies were on the stage when the lights went up but they had white robes on by then all we could see the white shadow of them putting the white robe on after the arms went into the air with the undies!

It had a very good story line..it was about 6 steel workers that lost their jobs in a small town when the factory shut down and they could not get a job anywheres and the Chip and Dales had been in town the week before and made a killing so they decided to do it too for one night only!

This show was held at the Confederation Center of the Arts, not really the kind of show they really hold there. It was a bit racy and raunchy in places but overall not a bad show. It remains to be seen if it will continue next year. The Confederation Center is main stage for Anne of Green Gables.

Now I am not sure how they are going to top that one and will have to wait and see if I will join them.

Moving On Up.....

Well, today my blog post is all about me!!!

Thats right .... I want to talk a bit about myself and my plans...lol..or lack of plans for the summer.

A few weeks ago I applied for a Supervisor's position, not expecting to get it - I was right I did not but to my surprise I was offered a temporary one for 9 weeks for the summer but that meant I could not take any vacation time as I was filling in for someone going on a vacation.

I was thrilled and took it. I am nervous but looking forward to the challenges this position presents... I am a correctional officer at our provincial correctional center that houses from 100 - 140 inmates on the weekends.

I work out of a unit that is called Medium and houses 27 inmates. I will be supervising that unit but on evenings and some days I will be supervising the whole building. That is where the real challenge comes in - we deal with weekend inmates, remand inmates, sentenced inmates and ones the police take to our back door. I have had the occasion to fill in on a shift once in awhile but nothing like I am facing now and of course due to the vacations of permanent staff I will also be dealing with a lot of casual staff.

This will give me the opportunity to decide if I want to apply for this position in the future. We have 3 supervisors retiring in the next few years and that will be the last until after I retire.

This also means I will not be working any nights nor weekends! Not sure if I would like this or not - I do like to work my nights as you all know...lol...when will I ever have the chance to sew!

Special Post on A Special Lady

A few months ago I joined a team on Etsy, The Promotional Frenzy Team...it was the best thing I ever did.

I met the most wonderful artists that are so helpful and supportive and one of those very special ladies is Galla15!!! She is the Captain of the team and she pushes us to do our best with our shops. There are many things she introduces us to that we are very resistant to but once we give it a go we are so happy with the results.

Galla15, Janet, is a very talented artist and her jewelry is amazing. She is doing a 4 day show this weekend and I wish I was near to drop by and support her. Her rings are amazing....so many different designs.

This is what she has to say about this weekend's events:

It is in Annapolis at a very very large Greek Orthodox Church. It is a Greek festival. They have dance shows of greek dancing with the kids from the church, TONS of greek food, crafts, and alcohol. Lots of the greek liquor, can't remember the name.

It is 4 days long and this is my 3rd year doing it (they have it twice a year, I do both). It is always amazing. They have shuttles to bring people in from nearby school parking lots, and police everywhere because they have over 20,000 people attend.

Today I would like to highlight a lady that is all about the children. Her wonderful shop and blog are both centered on them. I met Annie on the Etsy Angels Team...she is a wonderful addition to our team.

MyMiniMocs is Annie, the owner and designer of Mini-Mocs. Mini-Mocs, Inc. was started in 2005 for the love of babies' feet and the desire for a fashionable alternative in children's footwear.

My best friend & sister has six beautiful children and when it came time to putting shoes on their feet and keeping them there her choices were far & few between. She found herself limited to shoes made in China including many of the larger brands and most others all looked alike.

Developing mini-mocs became a mission. We set out to develop a child's shoe that put the health of children's feet first accompanied by the wonderful benefits of being incredibe flexible, machine washabie and having a stay on fit. Like all of our products Mini-Mocs are made with materials that exceed the US government safety standards for childrens product and are handmade in the USA. Mini-Mocs are available in four sizes. They are pediatrician recommended.

Meet another Great Artist....DiVaRoCks

Today I would like to introduce you to another Great Artist of the Etsy Community - DiVaRoCks!!!

I will let Diva tell you about herself and I will highlight some of her very beautiful creations. I asked her 5 questions and she answered them beautifully so will just post them here:

1. I have an interest in several crafts, but they all have a common theme--I like to use a lot of color, whether its scrapbook paper, fabric, or painting. My father inlaw has given me full use of his wood shop, where I have set up a studio and I am learning to use the tools as I go along. I am currently working on a lake/beach house series, and I just finished a set of very colorful fish.

2. I first realized I was artistic at the age of five. My mom kept me in a never ending supply of paper, paints, etc. I even made a mural on my parent's freshly painted walls, and never understood why they weren't pleased with my efforts! When I wanted to learn to sew, she cut up her table cloth and had me sew it back together. When I was in the third grade I learned to crochet granny squares, and in the fifth grade I was given my first sewing machine for my birthday. I was a floral designer for Ben Franklin Crafts for about five years, and when I bought my first house I painted murals on the walls, which led to having my own decorating business for several years.

3. COUNTRY LIVING magazine featured Etsy a couple of years ago, and at that time I was working on a set of wood children's blocks for my grandchildren. My family encouraged me to make more and open an Etsy shop of my own, I have been hooked ever since!

4. I have sold my crafts at a local farmer's market, but I am not currently participating on a weekly basis.

5. I am currently working on a design plan for a playhouse made from fabric and pvc pipes. I have two grandaughters and I am always trying to find something unique that I can make for them.

I'm a colored pencil artist. I'm a retired teacher & returned to my artistic roots about a year ago. I've done many different mediums, but colored pencil is a great fit for me.

In the past year I've juried in art shows, opened my shops on Etsy & Artfire & was invited to sell my art in a gallery!

I heard about Etsy from a friend. I'm about to open another shop, ZigZagArts, which will feature decoupage glass plates, platters & bowls.

Consignment Sales.

I have been sewing and selling my crafts for the past 6 years. My first sales were to co workers looking for baby items for showers and family. This lead to me being invited to a Christmas craft fair at one of our local high schools...it turned out to be a great venue for me and from there I was doing 4 schools in November.

While being a vendor there I met a number of contacts that worked or managed seasonal shops and was invited to put my products in their shops.

I now have my products in a shop managed by my sister at the Wood Island Lighthouse - they like to have mostly nautical themes.

I have a shop on the waterfront in Charlottetown that only takes crafts from local artists and they also like the nautical theme.

Another shop that has my product is the Orwell Historical Village and they look mostly for country themed items.

It is funny how each venue has their own style and what sells for them. They also each have their own consignment fee....it ranges from 20 to 30%. They all have great sales in bibs and potholders!

These 3 shops are shops I have dealt with for the past number of years and they have all been good experiences but there have been a few bad ones as well.

One shop that had my items for one year, returned them all stuffed in a garbage bag.. I never returned to this shop.

Another shop after going there about 4 times I finally got my items back and fly crap and all, so items were faded as they were hung in a window in the sun.

But all in all I like consignment but would advise anyone looking into it to be sure to keep a good accounting of what you leave and be sure to go periodically to check on your products.

I am in the process of gearing up for another year of consignment. I hope this year was a profitable and as good an experience as last.

Mother's Day is May 8th!

I can not believe Sunday will be May 8th and Mother's Day....where has the time gone.

I am not prepared for it at all....can you believe I am working a 12 hour day shift and do not know if I can get out of it. My son is not going to be pleased with me!

Do you have plans made? What do you do for your Mother on Mother's Day?

My mother is a very simple lady and does not like a fuss so we usually try not to all show up at once but plan our visits so there are not many of us there at a time. She does like to get little gifts. I am planning on getting her a watch and I bought this cute little note pad from Arriving Angels on Etsy:

My son and his wife usually have a BBQue at their house and the two mothers are there....they will get us small gifts from the boys. Her mother and I will get her something as well...this year one of the little things I bought her is this cute key chain from GlitterbirdGlamour:

Whatever the day brings I always enjoy just spending some time with my son, grandsons this year and my Mom. Mom is 75 years old and I worry each year it will be our last. So I will cherish every minute I get with her.

Today was a hard day for me ....it was one year since I lost my Dad! He was 78 and was a very simple hardworking man. He was diagnosed with cancer one month before he passed.

Easter is Only a Few Weeks Away

As I was sitting at my desk thinking about what to write for my blog I was also thinking of my grandsons and what I was going to give them for Easter. I realized that we are now turning Easter into another commercial day like Christmas which is very sad!

I decided to check out Etsy shops and see what they have to really bring home the true reason for Easter.

Here is what I found:

Remember what the True reason is this Easter! It is fine to give the children a little fun and games but they need to be told the rest of the story.

My grandsons will be getting their little Easter bunny treats and a toy but I will be sure to include a little message for my oldest!

The Promotional Frenzy team do a blog day on Wednesday and usually we just blog on what we want but of great leaders decided to change that this week. We are to blog on our work space with pictures!

Yikes, that means I have to show my work area, well that is not going to happen in the shape it is in so I spent a few days reorganizing and cleaning up!

I had hubby cut me a piece of fiberboard to put on top of my ironing board to make a bigger area for ironing fabrics.

My craft is sewing so I have lots of fabric about and I need to be able to locate what I want.

Hubby made me this great storage area in son's old bedroom which is now my sewing room/guest room. He made the shelves just big enough to hold file boxes which I file my fabrics in! Makes is so easy to locate each piece and I have labelled the boxes with the type of fabric.

Sons dresser also houses lots of fabrics...mostly my baby panels and plain flannels for backs of quilts and baby bibs.

This rolling cart has my scraps and my printed flannels for baby bibs.

The cupboard has odds and ends in it....lol... I am not going to show the inside! A girl has to have some secrets.

Under the futon, my batting lives! Along with another tote of unfinished projects or UFO's. The quilt on the futon was handquilted by me.

I have one sewing machine and a serger, sister left her sewing machine here for me as a backup if I need it.

My Room is not very big but I do make the most of my space and ...lol.... I do tend to spill over into other areas of the house, for example I spread my batting out on the Recroom floor to cut up. There is a large open area in the middle of the room big enough for a full bag of batting!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments on my work site....I do love it but it could be bigger...lol...I am sure it would never be big enough. I do try to keep it organized, I have so little time to craft I do not want to spend it all looking for things. My finished products are on the utility shelf....lol...poor hubby... in totes!

Stumbling around in Stumble with Some Cuties....

I joined a team called the Promotional Frenzy team and their motto is promote yours and others. They have lots of great ways of doing that and one of them is the Social networking site, Stumble.... I love it.

I have become addicted to checking out the Animal sites and my favorite are the Cutest Animals...I will show you a few, they are so cute and loveable - well most of them are!

Today is Customer Appreciation Day ...

I was trying to think of something interesting to blog about and decided that without my customers I would not be doing this so why not blog about them.

My last customer was LeahRHood she purchased this cute little sailor bib for her new bundle of joy that she is expecting in May. She found my shop through a BNR(BuyandRemain) Treasury hosted by the Promotional Frenzy team.

Leah is a social worker by day and a jewelry maker by night. She has many gorgeous items in her shop.

Joy bought a beautiful set of potholders from me as well!

Joy has a shop as well and knits beautiful hats for all ages. Lately she is spending more time spinning yarn.

Then I have Dede who purchased this bold bright full apron from me.

Dede or as the Etsy world knows her Pepper makes lovely sewn items but her rag purses are the best! She has more than 40 years of creating beautiful items!

There are many more that I should be honoring but time does not allow it right now but check my sold items and you will see some stunning creations that my buyers make as well.

With that I would like to say thank you to each and every one of my special customers!

Did I hear Someone say Snow!

WEll, if you are looking for some I will certainly share with you! I am so tired of it and listening to hubby complain about having to blow the yard out and where he is going to put it!

We really do have a big yard but you would not know it now as there are piles all over the yard. Hubby tries to keep it clean but it keeps piling up. Just take a look at our buildings and the house - hubby did clean some of the roof of the house.

Our grandson loves it though, today he had a great time sliding off his fathers truck that has been sitting in the yard all winter, it is difficult to find it by times.

I will have to get him over here to remove that one red ribbon that keeps hanging on to my shutter.

And as I finish this up....forecast for weekend pops up on tv...you guessed it another storm coming in with a possiblity of 20 more centimeters!!!

Another Fun Day in the Snow

It has become a tradition for grandson, Brayden and myself to go to the Jack Frost Festival. Last year his other grandmother wanted to join us so now it is the 3 of us and this year we took a playmate for him!

It was a cold windy day but we enjoyed it just the same.

We started off with a movie, then to the grounds where there were lots of great snow slides, sculptures and house sleigh rides.

In order to warm up a bit we went to the indoor playland. There were lots of neat things there for the kids to entertain themselves. They made slime, were put in a bubble, had Super Hero training for the guys and Princess dressup for the girls along with a number of bouncy toys.

There was a swim later in the day that the boys really enjoyed and then there were the fire works that were amazing! I believe that the snow made them show up beautifully.

WE are already planning next year, but going to take the package where we are going to attend the 2 days and spend the night in a hotel.

In a few years Bentley will be joining us!

So, if you are looking for DIY Valentine's Day cards, look no further! One of our Angels, aka Ashley from Ashley Nichole Designs came up with the cutest cards and great ideas on how to embellish them.

Not only are these fun to make, but they are sure to impress everyone who receives them. No previous experience necessary... give it a shot and let us know how it turns out!

Here is a list of the materials you will need:

Step 1: Download the pattern (Google Docs will come up. Go to file, download) After printing, use your metal ruler and your razor cutter and cut out the cards. Click on any of these images to make them bigger.

Step 2:

Fold the cards in half and press the fold with the bone folder to make a nice pressed crease.

Steps 3 & 4: Add your embellishments. Ashley suggests red crystals, glitter and ribbon.

Voila! You have just finished making your very own, one of a kind Valentine's Day cards!!!

We all need to be Kids again for a Day....

Today was a wonderful day for a family sledding party.

Everyone was lining up to get down the hill even Zena, my sisters German Shepard dog! We missed it but she came up the hill in the sled behind the skidoo!

Adults and children alike tried all the sleds, snowboards, and tubes available there.....when you got a turn you grabbed whatever was handy. My brother even tried out a car engine bonnet..

Down the hill we went and for the trip up we got to ride the sled behind the skidoo....I even took my turn.

We had a fire with hotchoclate, hotdogs and marshmellows...it was a wonderful day for one and all.

The teenagers started out slow, they did not think it was cool to be sledding with kids but when all started having fun they joined in and had a blast! Even the most skeptic left wanting to know when we could do it all again.

A Special Artist

Today I would like to feature a special new artist to the Etsy Community! Her shop is Bcrafty and her name is Bev and she is my sister. She is the mother of 3 adorable grandchildren and the mother of 2 daughters.

She also manages the Wood Island Lighthouse that is a Museum and has a wonderful little gift shop that she sells my items on consignment in.

Bev loves to take photos. She spends alot of time around the area taking photos of our beautiful island scenery. After awhile she decided to turn her hobby into a paying one.

Her newest passion is sea glass that she collects along the shores of Prince Edward Island. Bev's newest creations are beautiful but she is continuing to improve her wire wrapping skills.

Greeting The New Etsy Angels

The Etsy Angels are a small team and we are looking for new members to join our little family! We are looking for fun loving, caring, supportive and giving people that want to become an "Angel".

One of the main requirements to the Etsy Angels Team is that you must be willing to donate to worthy charities that are picked by the Team. We raise funds 4 to 5 times a year.

We have a few members that have been with us from the start and some new members in the past few months.

Right now we are raising funds for ORVAL, (Ouachita River Valley Animal League)in Louisiana. Read more about it on our thread.

Making Beautiful Things from Nature.

Today I have the pleasure of reviewing and promoting AngelsNEverlastings' from the Promotional Frenzy thread.

She makes gorgeous unique wreaths and wall hangings using dried flowers and unique materials to create distinctive and unusual dried floral home decor.

Angels is from the Boston area and opened her shop in 2009.

Here is a gorgeous heart shaped wreath made from seashells, grapevines fragrant lavender, pink celosa and white larkspur!

Another of my favorites is this unique basket like arrangement made of grapevines and floral dried flowers.

The next one is a beautiful dried floral spray with silver king, eucalyptus, pretty light purple and grey mexican sage and other mixed florals.

Time to Help the Furbabies again....

2010 is over and the Etsy Angels had a great year of fundraising. We took a few months off to promote our shops for the holidays and focus on Christmas and our families. Now we are ready to get back to the main mission off the Etsy Angels...raising funds for worthy causes.

January 2011 will be spent raising funds for ORVAL, (Ouachita River Valley Animal League)in Louisiana. The organization began in 1995 with the promise of trying to make the local shelter a better place by reducing the number of pets euthanized and by giving them resources and products to make the pets more comfortable during their limited time at the shelter. ORVAL quickly realized that a lot of animals were being surrendered because their owners could not afford vet bills. ORVAL then decided to add Vet Assistance to the list of services. Along with vet assistance, ORVAL also has a foster program to try to give pets, from the shelter, a longer and better chance of getting adopted!

This cause is very special to Wildlifer aka Amanda.

We will be donating a portion of our sales to the cause. WE have something for everyone....

And of course Ozarknana aka Melana created a new mascot for us and will donate 50% of Starbarks dog!

2011...Making a List and Checking it Twice!

2010 was not a good year for me and I did not spend much time on my shop or crafting but want to change that in 2011! I have some very ambitious goals for the next few years and if I do not get going they will not happen!

So for 2011:

#1...Craft more adding more items to my inventory. I work shift work but have at least 2 days of a week so I am setting aside 4 hours each week to just go to sewing room and work on item. I do alot of hand quilting on night shifts and that will continue.

#2...Add at least 4 new items a week to my shops.

#3...Find more shops to put my items in for the summer and try to locate a shop that is open year around for consignment as well. Here is one shop I have items in..the Wood Islands Lighthouse!

#4...Use my blog to get more attention in my shop and items.

#5...Attend at least 1 more craft show next Christmas season. This is one of my best show...The Colonel Gray Craft Fair.

Well then they have never met the Wild Wise Witty Grandmas!!! This is a wonderful team of grandmas that do all kinds of wonderful crafts, some have been doing them for years others are just getting started! This group of women are very supportive, caring and talented.

Lets met a few of those WWWG's as we call them on our thread:

GrandmaLindasHouse aka Linda where everything is made with love. She enjoys creating and the thought of someone enjoying her creations makes her very happy. She is a wizard with the sewing machine making tiny Barbie clothing and her upcycled mittens are a real hit!

Next up we have...Mountainsidecrochet who crochets the cutest little critters! She just moved to St Louis to be close to her family and is readjusting to the cold weather.

Then we have Enchantedquilling! She makes the most amazing cards, such detail! She is also an avid golfer and an all around fun Grandma...which you would never know it by her energy.

It is Looking alot like Christmas

I love to decorate for Christmas. I have many little things that have been given to me as gifts. My birthday is the first week in December so alot of my friends and family get me a new ornament or decoration.

Last year we gave in and purchased an artificial tree, verdict is still out on it. It is pretty and easy but I miss the smell of the fresh trees so much. The balls that are white on the tree are handmade by my daughter in law and each has a picture of our family, one of myself, hubby, son, daughter in law and a couple of grandson #1, she is making me one with grandson #2 for this year. It is a tradition for her now....my mom has one of each grandchild!

The Navitity Scene was a gift from Hubby's employer one year! The 2 ornaments on speakers were gifts from son's mother in law for my birthday.

This year it looks like we may have a green Christmsas... I would really love to have a bit of snow. Mind you not much as we have many plans for the holidays.

And those 2 adorable boys are my gifts from my son and his wife!

Our newest Angel....

He has finally arrived....our darling grandson! Bentley Ausin Christopher arrived at 1:20 am on November 6th! There were many scary times in the past few months when we were doubting if we would get to know this grandchild.

Friday the doctors decided it was time for him to make his entrance into this world. He was only 34 weeks but he arrived doing well, he weighs 4 pounds and 14 ounces, 18 inches long.

His parents and big brother, Brayden are very happy! They are so thrilled to add to their family.

This month is very happy and very sad month for them....on November 22nd last year they lost their second child arrived as a still born. We find it so unfair that this child did not get to spend his life with us.

God bless all the little children out there!

Another Month Gone By...

It is hard to believe that October is gone and we are into another November. Last November was a hard one for my family...hope this one will be better.

October has been a busy month for me and the Etsy Angels but we have come together and raised lots of funds for the Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in Louisville.

The totals are coming in but so far we had 140 sales that a percentage of will be donated.

The Etsy Angels are going to take November and December off and spend time to work on our own shops and to help promote each other and gain some sales for the holiday season.

I have 4 more craft shows to get ready for and attend, a new grandchild about to be born and am running a program on Addictions for the females in the institute I work in....so November will be another busy month.

Oh, yeah I will also have to do a bit of Christmas shopping!

My Latest Project for Grandson!

My grandson wanted his room to be a big boy room and decided Camo was the theme. His mom is the designer/decorater but due to pregnancy can not do it.....so in comes Grammie...but Grammies is not a decorater.

He got his camo colors on the walls but not the design but he loves it and it all seems to be coming together...still need wall art and we are waiting for his camo netting to arrive to make a closet door covering. They live in a small home and every bit of space has to be utilized so his closet is storage as well as his new entertainment unit. We put his dresser in the closet as well to free up some floor space.

Two walls are painted the dark camo green, one the light camo green and the other a dark brown. We bought him the bunk beds and his other grandmother bought him the comforter sets in camo that are reversible. The brown curtains came with it but his mom is going to do something else to them as they are too plain.

He has some army tanks, men and other items that will be put in either shadow boxes or on small shelves. He painted his own light switch covers and plug in covers. As well as a hocket stick with pegs on it for hanging his medals in...he did a great job of making them match his camo bedding.

We are looking for some cool under bed storage units for his smaller trucks and toys. He confiscated his parents dvd rack for his movies and games and put at the corner of his bed....looks great but wonder how long that will all stay together and neat.

Let Them Be Kids....

I had a wonderful day yesterday with my grandson. A few weeks ago my grandson asked me if I would help with the building of a playground at his school. Of course I agreed. He loves for me to take him to these things as I allow him more freedom.

I had to take a vacation day from work so waited til Friday before requesting it as it was forcasting rain. The event was going forward if there was only showers. I got up at 7am to be ready to be there for 8am and it was raining here...not a good start but phoned grandson and he said no rain here Grammie!

Off we went, boy was I surprised, lots were there already working away. It was daunting when we were told what was going to happen for the day! Not only was the new jungle gym to be finished(the men had worked on it for a few days as there was welding involved and kids could not be there) but old jungle gyM was repainted -

2 green spaces redone...one was just a jungle...lol...lots of hard work there:

existing swings, baskeball hoops, soccer nets were all painted:

There was lots of tree trimming going on too...the front of the grounds was all thinned out and hauled away, the back of the lot was thinned out and some trails were made wider for skiing in the winter...I did not make it that far to get pictures.

At 11am they ran out of name tags for the volunteers....300 were ordered!!! It was amazing to see students, parents, teachers, principles and lots from the community to come together to make this happen.

It was a dream of a former teacher who was very active in the Home and School Program, LauraLee Crawford Walsh! Lauralee died of cancer a few years ago but her dream was never forgotten...the park was named in her honour and this is only Phase 1!

After some speeches, thank yous LauraLees family unveiled the sign and opened the playground to the kids...

The Home and School Committee could not believe what had been accomplished...we were there for about 6 hours! There were lots of donations of food, drinks and snacks... we all ate well and had fun along with accomplishing so much for the kids of the community!!!

Preparing for the Harvest

The fall or as some call it autumn is the most beautiful time of year. There are so many great colors with the leaves changing, the crops getting ripe for harvest and the late flowers.

I love it, it is nice to be outdoors working in the gardens or even getting the wood ready to put in for the winter.

Strolling through the shops of Etsy I was able to find lots of neat items that represent harvest and the fall.

I live on Prince Edward Island and our weather is pretty predictable. Hot in the summer for a few weeks, August we have our annual Old Home Week then it turns cooler right after and we get ready for the winter. Winters can be long but not too bad... some years we get more snow than others.

But hurricanes do not come to our area very often. The last on was Juan about 5 years ago now they are talking about us getting Earl. So I was checking my list of supplies and I thought I wonder what I could get on Etsy if I was looking for things to help me through...so lets see what I found!

Crafting is an Addiction....

There are lots of different crafting venues....from beading to scrapbooking. Some artists can stick to one craft where others have many on the go at the same time. I am going to feature a few of those.

I would like to start with my addiction....sewing and quilting! Here are a few of the items that I enjoyed making that were in my shop Sewinggranny:

I love to sew but for the life of me I can not follow a pattern nor could I imagine making clothing....let alone clothing for Barbie dolls. Grandmalindahouse makes the most adorable little outfits for Barbie:

I am always looking for ways to organize my sewing/craft area. I decided to go to Etsy and see what the artists have to offer me. I found a few useful items that I will share with you.

Fun in the Sun with Grandson!!

I know I have been very slack in posting on here but will try to get back into it...

So here is my weekend with my grandson!

We had a wonderful time at the Gold Cup and Saucer Parade in Charlottetown on Friday with my sister and 4 nieces. HEre are a few shots of the beautiful things we saw!

Then Saturday morning it was on to the Soccer tournament at the Eastern Eagles Complex...there were teams of all ages playing. Grandson is in the Under 10 boys and their team won 2 out of 3 games....He is the one with the green spiked hair..lol..yes, I did say green spiked!

Saturday evening it was on to Grandsons 9th birthday party....He wanted a water party and boy was it alot of work. As you will see their yard is a work in progress and we had some problems with the pool. The inflatable ring has a hole somewheres and we can not find it...so every day for the past 4 days we have been pumping it up every 6-7 hours. But in the end it was all worth it we all had a blast and I seem to be the target for the night...there were lots of water guns and water ballons!

So that was my weekend with my grandson....lol...everyone was saying wait til next year you will have to do this twice a year. As most of you know we are expecting our 2nd grandchild in late November or early December.

Summertime...and the Angels are BUSY!

Wow, Summer just seemed to jump up and grab us all! This July has been SO busy for all the Angels! There are wedding plans in the works, wedding dresses being made, surprise parties, businesses being planned, buildings being thought out, people moving and getting settled, and Angels getting healthy....WHEW!

Vacationing Angels are all over the country flying here, driving there! And some Angels are just relaxing and getting some deserved rest this Summer! But through it all the Angels are going to continue their search for NEW Angels! If you have someone you think might want to join the Etsy Angel Team and that have an Etsy Store be sure to let them know about our "open call" for new members.

Our Team was formed after the many hours spent together promoting for Dawn’s Boys; an effort that began in late December 2007 after a Jewelry artist who was on both Etsy and Ebay lost her life in an automobile accident. She left behind two little boys. Several "Angels" came together to help. After spending countless hours promoting donations from more people than we could imagine that wanted to help, many friendships were made. We couldn’t imagine it all ending without creating a Team for Dawn’s Angels. ♥ It is in Dawn's name we've created the legacy of giving to others, The Etsy Angels, please join us.

My first Yard/Craft/Garage Sale of the Year

This weekend marks the beginning of the great yard sales here on Prince Edward Island... a number of communities do them as fundraisers. The Eastern Kings Giant Yard sale is the first and this year the funds go to the community arena. I have taken part in each of the events and this year marks number 3!

I always do good there....I sell crafts, household items and of course things that belonged to my grandson. My grandson is the big winner here...lol..he does nothing and reaps the profits...I give him all the cash from everything except from my crafts and the table rentals are paid from the household items.

It is alot of work but I love it. I usually have my friend with me but this year she is unable to attend so not sure if I will take my portable garage or not as it is too hard to set it up on my own.

You will find everything from antiques, crafts, junk to treasures here...something for everyone and of course there is food!

Weekend with My Family

The last year has been very trying for my family. We have had a number of losses including my grandson and my father. So it was very special to get to spend my son's 30th birthday with him and his family.

He works for a blueberry company and this time of year is very busy for them so it is very difficult for him to get time off or to plan any events. So this weekend was all spur of the moment plans.

First off he got to attend his son's testing for his yellow belt in tae kwon do on Saturday then his father and I took him and his family out for breakfast on Sunday!

My son's wife had planned a BBQ for him on Saturday but by the time he got home from son's testing he was beat as he worked all night on Friday so the BBQ was put off until Sunday too.

It seemed like all we did all weekend was eat but it was good and we had a great time. The kids had a great time too...the wind was playing havoc with candles and food but we managed!

It is hard to believe that 30 years ago my son was born...it was the scariest days of my life but also the happiest...there have been some bumps along the way but I love his so much and am so proud of him! This is him holding his cake...lol...not all 30 candles would fit on it...and his son and his dad heading out the door. Cake had to be lite inside as the wind was too strong.

I cherish the time I get to spend with my family these days as you never know when something will happen....there are no guarantees in this life.

My Newest Discovery - The Answer to Falling Pins

Do you sew? Have you ever dropped a whole tray of stick pins? Well I have and it is not fun trying to pick them all up especially if you have carpet in your sewing room!

I have tried using the little pin cushions that go around your wrist, I have tried a large pin cushion, I have tried using one taped to my sewing machine and nothing works... the velcro let go on wrist cushion or it got caught in the fabric, the big one was in the way.

I am always looking for new and easier ways to do things and when I dropped the dish of pins for the 10th time....hubby went to the shop and returned with a magnet to pick them up....that worked great.

He then asked me what I kept them in and when I told him about all the things I tried he said, "I have just the thing for you."

Off to the shop he went again and came back with a little metal bowl with a magnet attached to the bottom and gave it to me ....

Wow, this dish is just the perfect answer to your pins... I can even turn the bowl upside down and my pins stay put! I even took them to work just sitting in my kit bag and they were still all in the bowl when I took it out of the bag. Here is the dish hanging from my fridge and stove with pins in it and they stay in it!

These little dishes can be purchased at any automotic shop... they are used to keep nuts and bolts from getting lost when the mechanic is working on an automobile. They are very inexpensive.

You must give them a try!!!!

Enjoying the Summer and My Yard!!

The summer is upon us and we have been spending lots of time outdoors working on our yard. We purchased a new gazebo to place on our deck...in the near future we plan on building a gazebo, this is just a quick fix for now. I spend many hours out here especially now that I have high speed wireless internet.

The flower beds are all ready for the annuals and the weeds all cleaned out and beautiful red cedar mulch added, thanks to my hubby... he did most of it!

There is one small bed at the front of the house that needs a few plants and the mulch.

I love the huge maple trees with all the leaves out and the mulch around them....lol..not so much in the fall when the leaves fall off.

The grass is so nice now that it is a beautiful green. Hubby did not think so and did a bit of seeding, he loves it nice and thick and green.

We have been cutting the dead wood away from the tree line... some we saved for firewood and some we burnt in a pit my brother dug us with the backhoe.

We will start with CreatsbyNoraMarie...Quilting and sewing are her passions, but loves all things creative, so you will see a variety of items sewn and machine embroidered. Nora is a member of the Quiltsy Team!

Now on we go to the next shop with more gorgeous quilted items...and another team member of the Quiltsy Team, UniquelyNancy. Her shop is very unique...from her beautiful wallhangings to her coinpurses!

We are now off to Springwaterdesigns, another great Quiltsy Team member with gorgeous quilted items and more...I love her unique pincushions. Springwater also makes her own patterns and some have been featured featured in Quick Quilts Magazine Issue #107, and Quilt Magazine Issue #108 http://quiltmag.com.

Strolling Through Etsy....

I am off on another stroll through the beautiful shops of Etsy. I will start with a few great artists that are on my teams. I love the friendship and support you get from being a team member.

My first stop will be in Kimbuktu's shop...she is a member of the Quiltsy Team with me. Her shop features a variety of items from bags to placemats to quilts. At the time she does not have a quilt in her shop but am sure we will see one soon.

My next stop is Sharonilg's shop, she has 3 different ones and the one I am going to feature is helping in a very special way, 50% of the proceeds go to StJudes Hospital Childrens Hospital. Sharon makes beautiful tole painted hearts:

Now I am on to a member of the Quiltsy Team, this is a team made up of ladies that love to sew and quilt. They make a variety of items that are quilted and other neat things too. My feature artist from that team is Secondsantuary, she is a minister in her other world but a fantastic quilter in the Etsy world...her shop is a must to stop into:

Ok...now lets head off to the WiseWildandWitty Grandmothers team.... It is so much fun to see what people do in their retirement but not all of these fabulous ladies are retired and some are way to young to be a grandmother ( just like Sewinggranny.. you would never mistake her for a granny...lol...but loving every minute of it). Today I would love to show of MountainsideCrochet...she loves to crochet but has been known to do some plastic canvas work as well. Her descriptions of her crafts are so cute...they all tell a story. Mountain had a great summer doing the Market and all the little ones loved her little critters.

GrandmaLindasHouse has a beautiful shop with a variety of items. Linda is a very talented Grandmother that enjoys sewing and is very active in the WiseWittyWild Grandmother team. Her Barbie doll outfits are the hit of her shop:

Silkcreeksoaps has a wonderful shop....she was orginally called Sissysoaps but has since changed her shop name. She is a member of the Etsy Angels and takes part in all our fund raisers. Silkcreeksoaps will do a special order just for you in one of her many scents...be sure to check her shop out. Her goats milk handmade soaps are so devine....

My Kitchen Renovation

I love to decorate and change my home but do not like the mess so I have put off my Kitchen renovation for a number of years. When we bought our home many years ago it was the home of an elderly gentleman and he built it to suit his lifestyle. The walls were all panel board. I have papered, painted and added wainscotting to it. That was so outdated I decided this was the year...it was going to be renovated!

We had the walls all gyproced and changed out the doors for the provincial colonial white style. The trim is white colonial as well. It took me some time to decide my color ....the first choice was much oranger than I wanted so back to the hardware store where the clerk added more brown pigment...I love it. The most astonishing thing is that so does my husband.

We hired a carpenter to do the gyprocing, put in doors and frames and the new trim. My husbands coworker did the seam filling and he did a great job. I did the primer and 2 coats of paint. Also decided to paint our ceiling as well...it is stuccoed in a very nice design. I painted the cupboards one color that is two shades lighter than the walls. This is the first time I did the doors and background the same color. Still not sure if I like this or not.

Well as usual things progressed and the floors looked so out of place that we opted to change it too while at it. We picked the new style of laminated flooring that looks like tile. Counter top now needs to be changed and will do so with in the next few weeks...I want it to match the island I have.

I am so in love with my new kitchen...can not believe it is the same one. It is just beautiful with new accessories up...

Jack Frost Festival

The Jack Frost Festival is an annual winter festival here on Prince Edward Island. It is one of the biggest and best in Canada. It features 3 different venues...The outdoor park on the Waterfront Landing with huge snow slides, beautiful ice and snow sculptures, sleigh rides, outdoor skating rink, snow maze and cartoon characters roaming around.

The indoor playground at the Civic Center featuring childrens shows, rides, face painting, petting zoo and food. The 3rd venue is at one of our malls and has projects for the kids to work on...science, legos, crafting plus this year there was a princess room where the girls were made up like princesses and a super man hero training room for the boys.

The Festival has become a traditon for my grandson and I for the past 5 years. This year his maternal grandmother wanted to join us and he wanted his cousin to come to.. so off went the 4 of us for the 2 of the 3 days. This year it was a beautiful weekend.

We spent most of Saturday at the outdoor park....the kids had a blast and so did the adults...I went down the great Cat slide in a tube (no pictures of that graceful act but have one of the kids doing it).

The ice and snow sculpures were beautiful and the theme was the Olympics.

My neighbours sons won the competetion with this outstanding creation.

The children loved the 10 foot snowman! He was amazing.

Each night there was a great fire works display. They went all out this year. They lit up the sky for over 30 minutes.

Critters for Charity

I belong to the Etsy Angel team and every second month we do a charity event that raises money for very worthy causes. One of the members of our team began to make little "critters" to help raise money for thos cause. Ozarknana is a great artist that loves to sew and make neat items for children. Ozarknana is a very generous,caring, giving lady that has helped in many charities.

Her little critters are so cute and she has created one as a mascot for each of the charities that we did.

Today I decided to check out some vintage finds on Etsy... I am not much of a collector of antique or vintage items but know what I like.

GrumpyTomsAttic has a beautiful butterfly toothpick holder. The butterfly design in the glass is exquisite -

VioletandGrace has so many unique items in her shop....lol...there have been a number of items that I can remember from my childhood. This stein is all hand painted with blues, browns and greens.

MiniMade makes beautiful things from vintage fabrics...This tea cozy has been made using vintage, but unused, pillow shams. The embroidery and cutwork which decorated the sham is now the focal point on both sides of this simple but elegant cozy. A scalloped edging graces the bottom of the cozy.

Quilts are so Unique....

I am a fanatic about quilts...I love to make them, look at them and use them. I love to hand quilt but have seen many gorgeous ones that are machine quilted too.

One of my great pasttimes is to check out the very talented quilters on Etsy. It is one of the reason that I joined the Quiltsy Team. There are many amazing quilters on this team. Their eye for color and design amazes me.

Lets take a peek at a few that just popped out at me in my search...this is by no means the only great ones available..

This adorable quilt features the tumbler pattern in wonderful pink and brown designs and is machine quilted and pieced by Warmfuzzies. What young girl would not love to cuddle up with it!

Anna Mae is like a step back in time. With hopscotch, baby dolls and dreaming of a canopy bed. The girls are machine appliqued on by QuiltPetaler.

I can not describe this beautiful quilt so I will use SuzyQQuilts own words for it - Perfect for snuggling on the couch in front of a fire, a stylish way to keep your legs warm at an outdoor sporting event, a great accent to a room strewn over a couch or chair, or the perfect backdrop for an outdoor picnic.

I would like to now show you one of my quilts...by no means as gorgeous as the above ones but I am very proud of it. It was made for myself but took me so long to hand quilt that I had changed my room decor before it was finished... This beautiful blue quilt is packed away but would love to sell it and see it on a bed -

QuiltingFrenzy has a great quilt for the vintage car collector...we are always looking for something for the man in our lives. This is just perfect!

Bonbonsandmore has a unique quilt in her collection...What is a crumb block? It is a true scrap block....when I'm working on a project, I save almost every trimming and left over pieces....CRUMBS! I keep them in a box, and when I want to stitch without stress, I start sewing these pieces together! The results are always interesting...
certainly not boring!

I am also working on a crazy quilt that will be using up alot of my scraps...stay tuned for it and many more quilts that I will be highlighting.

UFO's....In Crafting

I belong to the Quiltsy Team and one of the members came up with the term UFo's... UnFinished Objects. It did not take long for the term to catch on and we were all talking about our UFOs...so nice to know I was not the only one with lots of them.

We decided we needed some motivation to get them cleaned up and thought a challenge would be a good way to obtain it. We each posted our UFOs for the month of January...we have all been doing a great job on them.

Here is my list of UFO for the month of January:

In Tote #1...
6 oven mitt sets
6 baby bibs
2 table runners
2 wallhangings...have been put together but need handquilting

Long term goals that I will finish before the end of 2010:
#1. My quilt ....need to finish hand quilting and binding that can be seen here:

Project Discovery

Have you ever bought some type of supply item that you had no idea why when you got it home? A piece of fabric, some beads, some yarn, felt or some other type of item for your craft of choice!

Well, I did on my last fabric buying excursion... A few weeks ago my best friend and sewing buddy heard about a shop that was going out of business so of course we had to go there. We bought many great fabrics that we will use right away, some that will find its way into our stash and then this piece that I have no idea why!

It was a fabric panel to make an adult vest with the John Deere tractor and logo on it. Why I bought I have no idea....I have no one that would wear this vest and I am sure I would never be able to sell it!

When I looked at this panel I realized all little boys love tractors so I would make something for them. When I measured the back panel it was just the right size for a toddler apron...so that is what I did and when I had it all made realized that it was the same size as an adult bib. Now I had 2 uses for this part of the vest.

I now had the 2 sides to the vest left...what to do with them. Well one had a large tractor on it so thought it would make a cute wall hanging. Then found some broadcloth that matched and used the logo pieces and the tractor to make a nice wallhanging that will go with the vest.

Still 2 pieces of fabric left with 2 different logos. I added matching green broadcloth and made a set of potholders.

And there you have my Project Discovery...an adult bib or toddler apron, a wallhanging and a set of potholders all from one vest panel that I thought I would never use!

Custom Orders

I love to sew and to make things that people want. It is so rewarding when people will see something in your shop and then request the same in a different color or theme to match their style.

Since joining Etsy I have made many different custom orders some were as I stated earlier just different themes or colors but others have requested that I make something entirely different from my shop! Those are fun too.

Sandy of SayitwithJewelry(http://www.etsy.com/profile.php?user_id=7592552) saw a set of placemats that I was promoting on the forums and requested this neat set for her daughter along with matching napkins which I have never made before!( Hope I can get pictures to go in right order this time). Sandy was going on vacation and just purchased by seeing the fabric she has not seen the finished product yet.

Another great customer of mine is Lisa of Cblandcompany and Beadznstonezsupplies(http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5564707). She is a super lady to work with...I have made many things for her over the past 2 years....wallhanging, placemats, oven mitts, table runners, Christmas stockings. My greatest accomplishment was the quilt that she had me custom make for her...It turned out huge and beautiful. She has more orders in the wings for me too when she finds the fabric she likes. Keep them coming Lisa I love decorating your home....lol!

Melana, Ozarknana(http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5809669) is another terrific customer...I have made many diffenent items for her..including this beautiful star table mat and potholders to match.

Judy, Satinpetalsoaps( http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5498271) got me started on custom orders by ordering little satin bags for her homemade soaps. She kept me really busy until she had to take a break from her shop. I hope to see her back at it soon.

I enjoy a challenge as long as it does not involve a pattern I do not follow patterns ....most of my sewing is free hand.

So if anyone has a custom order they would like to have sewn just drop me a line.

Now I am off to mail my latest custom order to Sandy's daughter...hope it arrives in time for her birthday!

Staying with the Tourist Theme

Sunday we decided to play tourist again in our own area. So off we went to the Eastern end of Prince Edward Island. It was a beautiful day so we stopped at our local Robin's coffee shop for a large coffee and away we went!

The first place we headed to was East Point to look at the amazing wind farm. Our government has decided to invest in some alternative energy resourses and have built 2 wind farms, one in the east and one in the west. The one in the east is 10 huge windmills...the arms are each 100 feet long and over 200 feet high. What an amazing site.

Then we were off the The East Point Lighthouse...it is a very busy tourist attraction with guided tours, small resturant and a gift shop. The gift shop showcases local talent and has some unique items in the nautical theme. As we were there we could see the ferry for the Magdeline Islands going by. The coast line is breaktaking there.

Then we were off to Spry Point...wow, what beautiful beaches there...our next outing up that way will be to spend some time on the beach. I am not much of a beach person but I certainly could relax for a few hours there.

We had a great time and headed back home and along the way we stopped at a new resturant called Sir Issac's Pub. We had a delicious supper and what a beautiful job the decorator did with the decor!

That was our day as a tourist on Eastern Prince Edward Island!

My Favorite Street Team....The Etsy Angels!

I have been busy doing blogs in the past few days and now I want to honor my Street Team...the Etsy Angels...they are more than a team on line I consider them my friends!

When things are going bad or we need support we run off to our team thread and pour our hearts out. There is always some one there to help us through it! We have shared many events in our lives over the past 2 years, happy, sad, joyous, disappointing...you name it one of us has been there. It is so nice to chat with it to someone that is not going to be going behind your back and discuss it with your friends or neighbours~!

Here is how our team got started:
Our Team was formed after the many hours spent together promoting for Dawn’s Boys; an effort that began in late December 2007 after a Jewelry artist who was on both Etsy and Ebay lost her life in an automobile accident. She left behind two little boys. Several "Angels" came together to help. After spending countless hours promoting donations from more people than we could imagine that wanted to help, many friendships were made. We couldn’t imagine it all ending without creating a Team for Dawn’s Angels. ♥

We have taken part in a number of charity events and the next one is coming up soon...In the month of September we are doing one for the American Diabetes Association!

I hope that it will go as well as the past ones....anyone interested in joining us can....we are always looking for Angel friends to help out! Just contact myself or anyone on our team.
